California is a source of great ingenuity and has now stretched the limits of water imagination once again.

A new bottled water has been launched there called SolarRain.  The product is created by making rain inside a filtration system powered by a solar thermal system.

According to 10news.com, “that energy is used to warm the … water.  The warming creates a man-made cloud in one giant container and the cloud is pumped into another stainless steel container, where it is cooled and then rains.”

What’s the catch ?  The water comes from the Pacific Ocean.  So the process is a form of desalination.  A desalination breakthrough would indeed be important news.
