Madrid is the largest and capital city of Spain. Situated on the river Manzanares, it is considered the major financial centre of the Iberian Peninsula, hosting head offices to the majority of Spain's leading companies, as well as providing headquarters to some of the world's biggest enterprises.
With a population of over three million, Madrid has a reputation as the liveliest capital city in Europe. Against a backdrop of glittering skyscrapers, its bustling Puerta del Sol, also known as the 'people's quarter', is a maze of tiny streets where visitors can enjoy a wide range of bars and restaurants. The city has numerous architectural and cultural splendours, from the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor to the Puerta del Sol and Prado Museum.
Situated between the Prado and Parliament, the Westin Palace Hotel was commissioned by King Alonso XIII in the French Baroque style and overlooks Neptune Square. Now meticulously restored, the 5 star hotel has 465 guest rooms and suites with a new fitness club and business centre.
The nearby Casino de Madrid is a grand former club for the wealthy and is renowned for its ornate architecture as well as excellent cuisine. Madrid Barajas International Airport offers a wide choice of international flight connections and is a short taxi ride to the city centre.
